Me and William Gibson

This post gave me goosebumps at the end. It's such an interesting take on the powerful relationship that can develop between an author and his readers. I've never read William Gibson's work, but reading your timeline was like reading a very different take on that author-reader relationship. We usually admire an author's work first, and their person second, but your experience was the other way around. He seems like a really cool guy, and I do hope you get that third signature!

You're so right about author readings, too. What I love most is not just hearing them read, but hearing them talk about their experience writing the work. I once went to a Christina Garcia reading after having taken a workshop with her 3 years prior. When I went up to get my book signed she looked at me and said, "I've seen you before." I couldn't believe she (kinda) remembered me, and so I explained to her where we'd met and she signed my book, wishing me luck in my own writing career. Every once in a while if I'm feeling really discouraged with my fiction, I'll read what she wrote and keep going.

Natalia, thanks for your comment. I hope I get that third sig, too! ;-) It's funny because Gibson is the only author I had a "reverse-relationship" with, but his words and career have had the largest impact on me. That's really cool about Christina Garcia, and says a lot about you that she remembered you!

And by the way, if you ever need another reader for your fiction, feel free to send my way. I'd love to read it!
